ABSTRACT

This study takes the G20 live performance Most Memorable Is Hangzhou as its primary case study, exploring its mode of cultural re-creation and, through comparison with Impression West Lake, investigates contemporary approaches to expressing traditional Chinese culture within the context of cultural diplomacy. It first analyzes how Impression West Lake constructs a poetic Jiangnan-style stage narrative by revitalizing cultural elements such as regional legends, the Ten Scenes of West Lake, and traditional poetic dance. The paper then examines how Most Memorable Is Hangzhou inherits this aesthetic foundation and further integrates modern interpretations of the ritual and music system, East-West cultural fusion, and high-tech staging to systematically reshape China’s national cultural image. The study argues that the performance not only marks a shift from local presentation to global communication but also proposes a new expressive paradigm that blends aesthetics, narrative, and dissemination, reflecting the strategies and logic behind the international transmission of re-created traditional Chinese culture.
