This study examined the effects of child abuse experiences on borderline personality traits and the mediating effects of reactive aggression. The participants were early adults(n=528) who were asked to complete an online questionnaire on borderline personality traits, child abuse experiences, and reactive aggression. Data analysis was conducted using correlation analysis and simple regression analysis and the test of mediated effect. The results confirmed that child abuse had a significant positive correlation with the formation of borderline personality traits in early adults. Reactive aggression also showed a significant positive correlation with the formation of borderline personality traits in early adults. Moreover, the mediating effects of reactive aggression between child abuse and borderline personality traits in early adults were confirmed. The results of this study showed that child abuse not only directly affects but also influences the formation of borderline personality traits, the latter through the mediation of reactive aggression. Finally, the implications, limitations, and suggestions for future research were discussed.
