ABSTRACT

This study analyzes the changes and characteristics in the use of Hanja by art major learners, based on the submissions to the "Hanja Idea Content Design Contest" held in 2023 and 2024. On the quantitative side, the analysis examined the scale of Hanja usage, the distribution of types and frequency, levels of difficulty, syllable counts, and word composition patterns. On the qualitative side, it focused on the strategic use of emotional and conceptual expressions, their integration with audiovisual elements, and the structural features of thematic strategies. The findings show that in both years, learners used intermediate-level and higher-level Hanja evenly, and their active use of advanced Hanja and idiomatic expressions reflected their planning skills and contextual understanding. In particular, the 2024 submissions demonstrated a notable increase in conceptual expressions centered on inner values and philosophical messages. These results indicate that Hanja is being utilized not merely as a passive memorization target but as a resource for creative planning and emotional communication. This analysis also provides valuable insights for future directions in Hanja education within art and humanities-integrated curricula.
