ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze the patterns of generative AI use and students’ perceptions during the process of completing academic presentation tasks, and to explore the educational implications. Although generative AI has recently spread across higher education, research in the specific context of academic presentations—complex tasks that require both linguistic and performative competencies—remains limited. An online survey was conducted with 160 students enrolled in a general education presentation course at a university in Seoul. The results showed that students primarily used AI for information search, idea generation, and reviewing presentation content. While most acknowledged its usefulness, they also pointed out limitations such as unclear sources, factual errors, and potential ethical issues. Moreover, almost all respondents emphasized the need for systematic instruction on AI use within presentation education. These findings indicate that presentation education should move beyond treating AI as a convenient tool and instead focus on strengthening students’ critical application skills and ethical responsibility. By proposing stage-specific instructional modules, improvements to evaluation rubrics, and the establishment of ethical guidelines, this study provides foundational insights for integrating AI use and academic competencies into university-level presentation education.
