ABSTRACT

This author analyzed the text closely and revealed the formal aesthetics of his poems based on not extrinsic but intrinsic perspectives, which has rarely been tried in research on Park Sung-ryong’s poetry. The features are first, the use of sound in terms of poetic words and the production of various effects accordingly, second, the intended overuse of aspirated sounds and Chinese characters for anti-automation, and third, mediation for estranging effects and borrowing nature, objects, or languages as technique. Poetic words placed in his poetic text produce delaying and estranging effects against automation in terms of the production of hearing, vision, and meaning. This study focused on uncovering the poetic techniques that Park Sung-ryong sought experimentally and his features differentiated from other lyric poets’. In short, the purpose and significance of this study are to diagnose and look back on Park Sung-ryong’s poetry which has been alienated from the history of Korea’s modern poetic literature and research holistically and to rediscover and reexamine his poetry’s achievements and aesthetics through the methodology of formal aesthetics that has not been attempted so far.
