ABSTRACT

Schweitzer's medical activities in Africa are closely related to his philosophy, theology, and medical studies. While studying philosophy and theology, he wanted to know the life itself and ethical thought of the historical Jesus. Based on the New Testament studies at the time, he learned that the historically existing thought of Jesus was in the practice of the love of life in the face of the coming end of the world. After that, he decided to follow the life of the historical Jesus and practice the work of preserving and nurturing life in Africa like Jesus. Working in Africa, he systematizes his own unique ethic of awe of life. This thesis introduces his theological research, which has not been well studied, and the connection between his theological thought and life-reverence ethics, and tries to find the meaning of his research and practice to modern people who are facing an ecological crisis.
