ABSTRACT

This study aims to reconstruct transnational family migration not as a mere result of individual choices or economic factors but as a processual reality—emerging and dynamically constituted through relationships and interactions within a networked context. To this end, the study integrates Whitehead's Prehension Theory and the Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to illuminate the philosophical essence and networked characteristics of transnational family migration in a multidimensional manner. Whitehead's Prehension Theory excels in elucidating the nature and transformative processes of relationships within transnational family networks, while ANT provides a robust framework for analyzing human and non-human actor interactions and the formation and reconfiguration of networks. Through this integrated approach, the study reframes transnational family migration as a relational and networked reality that is continuously shaped and reconstituted. The findings reveal that transnational family migration is formed as a relational reality through concrescence and transition processes outlined in Prehension Theory and manifests as a continuously evolving and reconfiguring network driven by interactions between human and non-human actors. Through this perspective, this study moves beyond conventional approaches that interpret transnational family migration as a mere outcome and instead reconstructs it as a processual reality that is continuously shaped and transformed through relationships and networks.
