ABSTRACT

Ad hoc networks are increasingly used in military communications, unmanned systems, and autonomous driving, where maintaining stable data delivery without centralized control is a major challenge. Our study proposes an integrated flow-control mechanism that manages traffic based on the available capacities of transmit and receive buffers. On the transmitter side, a priority-based packet filter dynamically drops low-priority traffic under congestion while maintaining missioncritical flows. On the receiver side, an enhanced routing protocol, OLSRb (OLSR-buffer-aware), embeds receive-buffer availability in TC (Topology Control) messages to avoid congested nodes during route selection. The proposed architecture and operational procedures are evaluated through two validation stages: (1) transmitter-side testing under variable buffer thresholds and (2) receiver-side comparison between OLSRb and standard OLSR. Results show that OLSRb reduces packet loss by about 17% on average, confirming improved transmission stability and adaptability. The mechanism effectively enhances reliability and resource efficiency in dynamic tactical and autonomous ad hoc network environments.
