ABSTRACT

The interactions of human dental pulp stem cell (hDPSCs) with Li-doped β-tricalcium phosphates (β-TCP) and their degradation behavior in biological environment were investigated. For this purpose, three different amounts of Li ions- doped β-TCP were synthesized by co-precipitation method. The lattice constants of crystal structure were slightly changed with addition of lithium due to the replacing site and the difference of ionic radius. Li-doped β-TCP showed significantly higher ALP activity compared to pure β-TCP, suggesting that lithium ion positively effects the cell differentiation. In addition, the osteogenic performance was also improved by the adding Li ions. These could demonstrate the benefit of incorporating an important trace elements, lithium, into β-TCP to achieve better osteogenesis activity. As a result, the combination of Li with β-TCP may be a promising method to improve bone regeneration, suggesting excellent in vitro osteogenic stimulation properties by inducing bone related gene expression in hDPSCs.
