AB - This paper tries to survey the problems of the archival appraisal system and practice through the appraisal agent, timing, and criteria in Korea. There are two sorts of appraisal criteria that contradict each other. This requires an urgent need for an appraisal policy statement. On this survey result, it suggests the trend to shift from passive and neutral appraisal to participatory appraisal by the active and conscious archivists and records managers.
