ABSTRACT

We address rising maintenance and development costs in a naval CMS that, despite NSCP-based interface standardization, retained legacy message handling that inflated code and required frequent changes. We propose NSCP-OpenDDS, applying DDS (OpenDDS) and adhering to SOLID principles. Implemented in the HMS interface module, it was evaluated under identical message-processing scenarios. Compared with the NSCP legacy implementation, cyclomatic complexity (CC) decreased by 50% and lines of code (LOC) by 59%. These results indicate improved maintainability and scalability, with expected reductions in development cost and a smaller impact scope when messages or equipment change.
