AB - This paper presents ERC-7891, a new Ethereum standard that introduces protocol-level mechanisms for splitting, merging and redistributing fractional ownership within a hierarchical NFT (Non-Fungible Token) structure. Existing standards like ERC-721, ERC-1155 and ERC-6150 lacked functionality for dynamic structural changes, limiting their applicability to real-world assets (RWAs) that evolve over time. ERC-7891, proposed in this paper, addresses this gaps by defining standardized functions and events, enabling asset management with transparency and verifiable lineage tracking. The proposed architecture integrates seamlessly with ERC-6150 and ERC-721, incorporating ERC-165 interface detection for interoperability among decentralized applications (DApps). The proposed standard documented the protocol through the formal standardization process, resulting in ERC-7891’s successful adoption as an official Ethereum standard.
ERC-7891 enables dynamic hierarchical NFTs, providing a foundation for next-generation decentralized applications in domains such as real estate, supply chain management and modular product ecosystems.
