ABSTRACT

This study explored the potential of using generative AI (ChatGPT) in Python game development instruction for adolescents by examining programming achievement perception and learning satisfaction. Eleven adolescents aged 13 to 16 participated in a within-subject design, sequentially experiencing a teacher-led condition and a teacher-and-AI-assisted condition. Data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale survey, open-ended responses, classroom observations, and prompt logs, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The AI-assisted condition showed higher mean scores in programming achievement perception, learning satisfaction, and recommendation/re-enrollment intention, but the differences were not statistically significant. AI usefulness items received positive responses (M = 4.27–4.45). Due to the small sample size and fixed project sequence, the findings should be interpreted as exploratory tendencies rather than direct evidence of generative AI effects. This study provides preliminary implications for AI-integrated programming instruction for adolescents.
