ABSTRACT

This study examined the association between perceived usefulness of exercise information and exercise participation among persons with disabilities and tested the indirect role of perceived exercise benefits in this association. Raw data from the 2024 National Survey on Sports Participation for Persons with Disabilities were used. The final analytic sample included 2,207 respondents who had been exposed to disability sport or exercise-related information and provided valid responses to the perceived exercise benefit items. The weighted population estimate was 335,316.6. Structural equation modeling was conducted in R using the lavaan package. Robust maximum likelihood estimation was used, and missing data were handled using full information maximum likelihood. Perceived usefulness of exercise information was positively associated with all four perceived exercise benefits including physical-function improvement, stress-relief, daily-life-function improvement, and medical-cost reduction. However, only perceived stress-relief and medical-cost-reduction benefits were positively associated with exercise participation. Significant positive indirect associations between perceived usefulness of exercise information and exercise participation were also observed through these two perceived benefits.
