AB - 本稿は日本語における「確認要求」を表す「だろう」と「ね」を、ポライトネス(配慮)の観点から考察したものである。こういった観点からの先行研究では、確認要求表現の「ね」がポライトネス的には中立(neutral)だと指摘されている(宇佐美1999等)。
しかし本稿では、「あの」のような前置きの有無と円滑なコミュニケーションを維持するためのストラテジーとしてのポライトネスとのかかわりから検討した結果、確認要求という発話行為は、相手や状況によって、相手のプライバシーを侵害したり、相手を傷つけたりする場合と、そうでない場合があるということが分かった。
前者の場合、その負担を緩和するためのストラテジーとしてのポライトネス(配慮)の機能が「ね」に見られた。逆に、インポライト(rudeness)の効果が「だろう」にあると考えられる。
さらに言えば、「だろう」は「インポライト(rudeness)」になったり、「ね」は「ネガテブ · ポライト(nagative politeness)になったりする場合もあり、その点で対立しており、したがって、店員がお客に確認を要求する場合は、「ね」を「だろう」に置き換えると不自然になる場合もあると考えられるものである。
