ABSTRACT

This study aims to clarify the actual usage of“HONTO”, which acts as a noun, adverb, and predicate in a sentence, It reconsiders the problems of current dictionary descriptions, and how to reflect the actual usage of “HONTO”. Therefore, this study analyzed the actual usage of the "HONTO" in the "Balanced Modern Japanese Written Language Balanced Corpus" in order to clarify how well it matches the description in the dictionary. First, the usage frequency is as follows. 本当(24962 hits)>ほんと(4098 hits)>ほんとう(3565 hits)>ホント(2389 hits)>ホントウ(13 hits) As a result, in terms of frequency of use, the Chinese characters 本当 were used the most overwhelmingly, followed by the Hiragana notation and the Katakana notation. In addition, by examining the word class (or part-of-speech) of “HONTO”, it is revealed that the word is used in each part-of-speech environment that is predetermined. And as a result of examining semantic usages of ほんと, it was found that there are a wider range of semantic usages than those explained in the dictionary. In addition, it was found that the usage of ほんとう is influenced by the relationship between the preceding event and the following event. Finally, it is possible to know how the writers on the Web reflect their feelings and emotions by notation.
