AB - This study is about the response strategies of Japanese and Korean doctors in responding to negative emotions of patients that may occur in medical situations. Data from medical dramas from both countries were used for the analysis. The response strategy was divided into hospitalization and outpatient treatment based on the type of treatment, and the cause of emotion was also considered and analyzed. As a result, it was found that the use of medical prediction strategies was dominant in the use of professional strategies in both countries. Regardless of the type of treatment and the cause of emotion, both countries used the most reassuring strategy in using counselor-type strategies. Analyzing differences between the two countries, Japan was characterized by the use of strategies to recognize, praise, and justify the other party. On the other hand, in Korea, the use of corrective strategies against opponents was remarkable, especially in hospitalization. Based on the above results, Japan was characterized by the use of a strategy that maintained an appropriate distance from the patient side and showed an attitude to recognize the patient's position or existence. On the other hand, Korea was characterized by the use of a strategy that seemed to convey the doctor's remarks somewhat strongly to patients. It is inferred that this may have occurred due to differences in the perception of response to personal consideration or private areas between Japan and Korea.
