ABSTRACT

The issue of homosexuality has now become an important topic in Korean society and Korean church. This study set the research question as follows and contemplated on them from an aspect of reformism pastoral counseling for the purpose of suggesting evangelical counseling approach to homosexuality. First, what is the general understanding about homosexuality? Second, what is the biblical understanding about homosexuality? Third, what is the approach to homosexuality from an aspect of evangelical counseling? The following summarizes the study results. First, as for the general understanding about homosexuality, consensus in the academic circles of psychology was that it sees homosexuality from a social perspective, rather than viewing it as a sin and acknowledges it with an emphasis on human right. Second, as for the biblical understanding about homosexuality, it was confirmed that homosexuality is regarded as an obvious sin and is prohibited. Finally, the approach to homosexuality from an aspect of evangelical counseling includes the following: 1) meeting homosexuals with the mind of sympathy; 2) church should be in charge of family ministry who serves them as healthy family; 3) it is important for church community to build trust with love; 4) belief in the change that the Holy Spirit gives. 5) respected listened to, invited and I pulled as member of the Body of Christ.
