Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the significance of the experiences of army nurses in the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) in Turkiye. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three nursing officers from August to October 2023. The data were analyzed using narrative inquiry methodology. Results: This study explored a series of stories from army nurses, including their deployment to Turkiye and their return to Republic of Korea (ROK). The analysis identified four categories: ‘Confronting Distrust and Prejudice’, ‘A Success that Cannot Be Called a Success’, ‘The Burden of Medical Support Carried by 6 People’, and ‘Experiencing Battlefield Nursing at a Disaster Site’. Conclusion: The study provided opportunities for the participants to reflect on their experiences. It identified aspects influencing disaster response and highlighted issues with the current system of the Ministry of Defense for rapid medical disaster response abroad. The significance lies in its consideration of implications in personal, social, and practical contexts. Finally, it suggests directions for future improvements and pursuits for better achievements in the KDRT.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a mixed reality (MR)-based major trauma nursing simulation training program and evaluate its effectiveness using the Rapid Prototyping Model (RPM). Methods: RPM has 7 steps: analysis, design, prototype, review, development, implementation, and evaluation. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, a general simulation using a high fidelity simulator was provided to 15 cadets in the control group. A MR-based simulation was provided to 15 cadets in the experimental group. We measured several variables such as simulation design characteristics, student satisfaction, self-confidence, learning flow, clinical performance, and clinical judgment. Results: There was no difference in the homogeneity test between the control and experimental groups. In the experimental group, the improvement of clinical performance and clinical judgment was statistically significant immediately after the intervention. Also, there was statistically significant increase in learning flow after 4 weeks of the intervention. Conclusion: In the process of adapting to new technology and environment, participants had difficulty concentrating on the MR-based simulation program. However, the MR-based simulation has a greater imprinting effect than the general simulation by providing audiovisual patient information. This study suggests to develop a hybrid education program that effectively combines a MR-based major trauma nursing training program with nursing skill practice.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of grit, job satisfaction, and graduating achievement on disaster nursing competency of Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) graduates with less than 5 years of working experience. Methods: The study design was a descriptive correlational survey with 204 KAFNA graduates participating. Data on grit, job satisfaction, graduating achievement, and disaster nursing competency were collected using an online survey. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, Man-Whitney test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression by using the SPSS program. Results: The mean scores of grit, job satisfaction, graduating achievement, and disaster nursing competency were 3.42±0.53, 3.85±0.65, 4.16±0.42, and 4.59±0.60 respectively. The factors affecting disaster nursing competency were grit, job satisfaction, graduating achievement, and workplace with 56.6% of explanatory power. Conclusion: It is recommended to improve grit, job satisfaction, and graduating achievement to promote the disaster nursing competency of KAFNA graduates. It is also suggested to enhance KAFNA graduates' disaster nursing competency during their training period and maintain that competency throughout their service.
