Data was collected using a self-report questionnaire based on a revision of Yang Il-Sims's (1996) Scale, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Pearson coefficients, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression procedure by the SPSS/PC win 12.0 programs. Results : In an analysis of images of the nursing officers, the highest mean scores were 'military image' 3.60, which were followed by 'traditional image' 3.58, ‘social image' 3.25, and 'personal image' 3.03. There was no significant difference in scores according to the subjects' individual characteristics or whether they had met nursing officers prior to the study. The results of analyzing the determinants of the images of nursing officers, the 'subjective factor' was found to be most determinant at 4.02. The subjects responses about they perceived to be required most of nursing officers was 'expert knowledge,' which was followed by 'nursing skills,' 'a sense of respectfulness and thoughtfulness,' and 'responsibility'.
