ABSTRACT

Purpose : This descriptive study aimed to identify the level of health status, the health behaviors among military officers in their 20s and 30s in the ROK Army, Navy, and Air Force. Method : The data were collected from 6,500 military officers in Korea from July to September, 2008 using a structured Questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS WIN 12.0 window program. Results : The mean score of physical health status among military officers surveyed was 12.6±12.9 while psychological health status was 3.7±5.7. The mean score of health behavior was 84.5±13.0. The most frequent health behavior was stress management. The factors related to health status according to general characteristics, workplace characteristics were sex, education level, grade, type of military unit, working area, working hour, time of overtime, duty time. The factors related to health behavior according to general characteristics, workplace characteristics were marital status, length of service, grade, type of military unit, working area, working hour, time of overtime. Conclusion : The results of the study suggest that military officers in their 20s and 30s need to do healthy behaviors and take part in health promotion programs, as part of the organizational environment. In addition, personal health status needs to be implemented in order to improve overall health.
