AB - Purpose:The purpose of this study was to find both the prevalence and the factors associated with LBP(Low Back Pain) among soldiers and to investigate the relationship of LBP, depression, adjustment to military life in the LBP group. Method:This descriptive study was conducted using a structured questionnaire from February 16, 2009 to March 2, 2009. The participants were 500 soldiers who matched the study criterion. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results:Among participants, 63.6% had symptoms of LBP. Pain intensity was 4.16 points. The low back pain group statistically had a significantly higher depression and scored lower in adjustment to military life compared to the non low back pain group(t=4.63, p<.001, t=-2.640, p=.009). Depression showed a significant positive correlation with back pain (r=.262, p<.001). There was a negative correlation between low back pain intensity and adjustment to military life (r=-.241, p<.001). Conclusion:For prevention and management of low back pain in soldiers, development of a health improvement program is necessary. The program should include interventions that focus on the management of LBP, depression, and on improving adjustment to military life.
