ABSTRACT

Purpose : The aims of this study were to identify the correlations among the knowledge about suicide, preparation to perform activities and self-evaluation of suicide prevention. Methods : The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires comprised of the three measurements and demographic characteristics from 332 army officers in Republic of Korea on April and May in 2013. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 18.0 in terms of frequency, percentage and average, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : The mean of knowledge score about suicide is 57.5. The mean of preparation to perform activities of suicide prevention is 40.6 out of 56. The mean of self-evaluation of suicide prevention is 43.5 out of 63. Knowledge score about suicide to characteristic was a significant distance depends on experience of commander and experience to learn about suicide prevention. The correlation among the knowledge score about suicide, preparation to perform activities and self-evaluation of suicide prevention showed a positive correlation. Conclusion : It is needed activities about suicide prevention to reduce the suicide rate led by a commander. In case of absence of counselors for suicide prevention, it would be possible to assign who experienced in commander and educated about suicide prevention.
