Purpose : The purpose of this study was to define the roles and duties of nursing officers assigned to the medical battalion of a division and to develop job standards for them. Methods : This study is a methodological research based on principle of job standards development for professional nurses suggested by Korean Nursing Association. First of all, a preliminary list of job standards for nursing officers were made by reviewing literatures, interviewing nursing officers working at the divisional medical battalion, and collecting opinions of the senior group. Secondly, the job standards was constructed by using Content Validity Index(CVI); and then, verified a practical compliance of the job standards. Finally, by gathering the opinions of the expert group, it was possible to define the job standards of nursing officers at the medical battalion. Results : We developed 5 job standards of nursing officers who were assigned to the medical battalion of the division including 13 criteria, 32 indicators and 93 nursing affairs. Job standards contain nursing service provider, educator, leader, consultant, and collaborator. Conclusion : The results are expected to help establishing policy which improve working conditions and workers' efficiency at the medical battalion by applying the job standards, measuring performance and accumulating data.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the influencing factors of perceived stress and mental health among army soldiers. Methods: The data were collected from the 288 soldiers, of in two military units located in Gangwon and Kyonggi province from September 7, 2010, for 11 days. The instruments were Symptom Check List-90-Revision, Stress in military life scale, Social support scale, Self-Efficacy Scale and Dysfunctional Attitude Scale-A. The data were analyzed using Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and Multiple linear regression. Results: The average values of perceived stress and mental health were approximately 2.43 and 28.70, respectively. Emotional support, support from officers and noncommissioned officers, general self-efficacy and dysfunctional belief accounted for 22% and 24% of the variance in perceived stress. Also the work, the external military and the environmental stress factors affected the mental health; and, consequently demonstrated 35% of the variance in mental health. Conclusion: Stress management strategies dealing with such causes as the work, the external military and the environment should be developed to prevent and reduce army soldiers' problem with mental health. Also, cognitive behavioral nursing intervention for efficient stress management should be created to offer social support, to increase general self-efficacy and to change dysfunctional belief.

Purpose : The aims of this study were to identify the correlations among the knowledge about suicide, preparation to perform activities and self-evaluation of suicide prevention. Methods : The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires comprised of the three measurements and demographic characteristics from 332 army officers in Republic of Korea on April and May in 2013. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 18.0 in terms of frequency, percentage and average, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : The mean of knowledge score about suicide is 57.5. The mean of preparation to perform activities of suicide prevention is 40.6 out of 56. The mean of self-evaluation of suicide prevention is 43.5 out of 63. Knowledge score about suicide to characteristic was a significant distance depends on experience of commander and experience to learn about suicide prevention. The correlation among the knowledge score about suicide, preparation to perform activities and self-evaluation of suicide prevention showed a positive correlation. Conclusion : It is needed activities about suicide prevention to reduce the suicide rate led by a commander. In case of absence of counselors for suicide prevention, it would be possible to assign who experienced in commander and educated about suicide prevention.
