ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine knowledge, attitude of oral contraceptives and menstrual attitude of female cadets in the ROK. Methods: This correlation study was conducted on 297 female cadets of 4 military academies using structured questionnaires from August to September in 2018. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, and Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS program. Results: The oral contraceptives knowledge was 11.38±4.52, the oral contraceptives attitude was 3.58±10.46, the menstrual attitude was 3.19±16.90. The oral contraceptives knowledge showed significant positive correlation with the oral contraceptives attitude and statistically significant negative correlation with the menstrual attitude. The oral contraceptives attitude had statistically significant negative correlation with the menstrual attitude. Conclusion: As future military leaders, cadets need appropriate and continuous education about menstrual management such as using oral contraceptives. And education programs for female cadets based on features of military academy environment should be developed.
