ABSTRACT

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the KFANA cadets' disaster-related information search behavior, psychological impact and optimism during COVID-19 pandemic period and to confirm the correlation between the variables. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study included 159 cadets currently attend KAFNA. Data were collected by structured questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's coefficient. Results: The average number of disaster related information search per day was 1.7 times, and the average time per day was 15 minutes. 28% of the cadets experienced quarantine due to COVID-19 infection, and they experienced frustration, depression, anger, and lethargy. The cadet's score of psychological impact was 28.89, and optimism was 95.92points. The time spent for disaster related information search and psychological impact were significantly correlated. Conclusion: In the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, cadets' psychological impact scores stayed high. Intervention to reduce psychological stress is important, and follow-up studies are needed to identify the level of psychological trauma at this point.
