AB - Purpose: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a simulation program for nursing care of Class I respiratory infectious diseases among senior cadets at the Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA). Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pre-post test was used. A total of 50 participants were analyzed with 22 assigned to the control group and 28 to the experimental group. The experimental group participated in a 100-minute simulation program on Class I infectious disease nursing care, which included pre-briefing, simulation, and post-debriefing sessions. In contrast, the control group received a 50-minute lecture followed by a 50-minute nursing skills lab. Results: The experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement in problem-solving competency (t=2.26, p=.028) and clinical competency (t=3.47, p<.001) compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference in self-efficacy in infection control between the two groups (t=-0.44, p=.659). Conclusion: The findings suggest that the simulation program effectively enhanced problem-solving competency and clinical competency of KAFNA cadets in caring Class I respiratory infectious disease patients. Further research is recommended to investigate the long-term effects of the simulation program and its potential impact on self-efficacy.
