ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a simulation training program on nursing for pregnant trauma patients. Methods: This study used the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. An 170-minute trauma nursing simulation training program for pregnant women using a high-fidelity simulator was provided to 16 cadets in the experimental group. The 15 cadets in control group were provided with a 60 minute case study of pregnant trauma patients. We measured the cadets’ clinical performance ability, educational satisfaction, and learning immersion. Results: There was no difference in the homogeneity test between the control and experimental groups. In the experimental group, the improvement of clinical performance ability was statistically significant immediately after the intervention. In addition, the control and experimental groups had a statistically significant difference in educational satisfaction and learning immersion. Conclusion: The simulation program developed in this study will contribute to strengthening both cadets' and nursing officers' trauma nursing competency for pregnant cases which are complex and less frequently encountered in clinical settings. It is necessary to develop simulation based education program considering a multidisciplinary approach.
