ABSTRACT

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the factors associated with health-promoting behaviors among Republic of Korea Navy personnel. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 213 active-duty Navy personnel recruited through quota sampling based on rank from three types of naval units: shipboard, submarine, and shore-based units. Data were collected between September 25 and November 7, 2023, using structured questionnaires measuring predisposing, enabling, need factors, as well as health-promoting behaviors of participants based on Andersen’s behavioral model. Of the 213 participants, complete data from 201 participants were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, χ²-test, and multiple linear regression were performed. Results: The factors positively associated with health-promoting behaviors included social support of military colleagues (β=0.02, p=.022), self-rated health status (β=0.49, p<.001), and participation in an obesity management program (β=0.18, p=.001). Conclusion: This study highlights the need of health-promoting interventions, which address the factors associated with health-promoting behaviors identified in this study.
