ABSTRACT

Lee, Kwangsoo's Kyuhan is the important work, in that from it, the Korean modern drama could start. He tried to inform people of the abuses of early marriage through Mrs. Lee who had suffered for her husband studying in Tokyo. In this work, he stayed the view-point of Naturalism. He tried the Feministic drama to reveal the circumstances effectively which Mrs. Lee faced and took invisible conflict structure. His perception that modern drama is Naturalistic drama had something to do with Zubouchishoyo. He said, “drama describes as the things are” in the Essence of the Nature, which represented his Naturalistic view point. He and Simamurahogetu introduced Naturalistic drama to Japan and their activities had an effect on Lee, Kwangsoo. The problem is that their Naturalistic dramas couldn't reach real Naturalism. Lee, Kwangsoo received this limitation of theirs, so he couldn't go farther than the point where he described faithfully Mrs. lee's circumstances. As the starting work of Korean modern drama, Kyuhan has the great value, but at the same time it has great limits, in that it failed to indicate the courses of Korean modern drama.
