ABSTRACT

This paper examines musical plays and revues in late 1920s in Korea, as new types of performance representing modernity. The performance of musical plays and revues abruptly increased in late 1920s. The performances were characterized by the montage of attractions such as dance. song, spectacle, sketch and so on. These performances showed exaggeratedly the speedy tempo of material civilization, the images of modernized city, and the pieces of various cultures. Many members of the KAPF (Korea Artista Proleta Federatio) were interested in the performances because they found the avant-garde form and the agitation-propaganda method among the performances.
