ABSTRACT

This article is a study on the editions of Gaegolsan representing Yoo Chi-jin's historical plays. Properly speaking, it is a research about the rechauffe aspects of Gaegolsan which had been done numerous since 1945. Gaegolsan has been the focus of a new title Maytaeza(Crown Prince Mayi) and rechauffe adding fifth act. Especially it has been the highly controversial issue which edition is to be a canon text among researchers. In the meantime a crucial fact overlooked in advanced researches is that this work had been adapted. Yoo Chi-jin's rechauffe of this work had been done until three years before his death. Thus this article bring in all the different editions of this work as subjects of study. The changes would be traced through them. For this cause I adopt a strategy drawing similarities and differences among editions. Such a method is very effective in understanding his rechauffe intention and meanings implied in it. This article limits the subject of analysis to texts published before writer died.
