ABSTRACT

The second stage of Geugyesulyeonguhoe, the theatrical company started from the 8th performance of November in 1935. The performance perception of centripetal translated drama in its first stage tried to make the model of modern drama in colonized Joseon, only to fail, so the second stage had to start with its aftermath. Yu Chijin insisted that Geugyesulyeonguhoe should be changed into 'the institution of practical action' In the performance of creative works, his insistence that pursued the popularity was accepted, but in the performance of translated drama it wasn't. It's because he preferred 'explicit French drama' and unlike his intention, the performances of 'grave drama' continuedThe members of practice withdrew from the Geugyesulyeonguhoe in 1936, when the acquisition of popularity in performance came to the front as the matter in hand. But his 'romanticism on the basis of realism' was not well expressed in the performance of translated drama. Porgy failed in performance and Resurrection succeeded and as the result, it was difficult for Yu Chijin to continue his insistence. At this time, the Geugyesulyeonguhoe didn't try experimental dramas and its differentiation from the other theatrical companies which made much of the audience's tastes almost disappeared. After that they performed mostly realistic stage dramas which the mood of sadness rested over. The performance of translated drama of Geugyesulyeonguhoe brought the same result that the modern drama of colonized Joseon had reached.
