AB - 문학자이자 연극학자인 김형기의 『포스트드라마 연극의 지각방식과 관객의 역할』은 한국연극 현장에서는 아직 생소하고 주류적이지도 않은 포스트드라마 연극을 ‘지각과 관객’이라는 핵심어를 통해 고찰한 책으로, 학술총서라는 글의 성격에 맞게 내용을 개념적으로 분류하고 범주화하여 일정한 관점에 따라 정리했다. 구체적으로 이 책의 1장과 2장에서는 상위개념인 포스트드라마 연극의 등장 맥락을 정리했다. 3장에서는 이에 해당하는 공연, 국내에 소개된 외국 공연작들을 범주화하여 분석했다. 이제까지 포스트드라마 연극에 대한 국내 논의가 포스트드라마 연극의 개념적 개괄 소개에 그쳤다면, 그 세부 각론을 구체화하고 현장에 적용한 것이다.
1장 <디지털 매체기술 시대의 ‘포스트’-예술 증후군>, 2장 <연극의 매체적 특징 : 연극성과 수행성>에서는 레만의 책에서 간단명료하게 진술된 내용들을 참고문헌을 통해 확인하고 보충하며 이해하기 쉽게 풀어 설명했다. 3장 <포스트드라마 연극의 제 양상과 영향미학>은 레만의 논의를 바탕으로 국내에 소개된 외국 공연을 구체적으로 분석한 장이다. 본문에서 범주화에 사용된 “몸, 춤, 이미지, 매체, 서술, 뉴 다큐멘터리”라는 개념은 ‘수용’보다 한층 적극적인 의미에서 무대의 ‘영향’ 관계를 반영하는 개념으로 이해된다. 이 책의 궁극적인 목적은 “레만에 의해 제시된 포스트드라마 연극이라는 상위개념의 범주에서 고찰하고, 관객이 공연예술의 미적 경험을 수용할 때, 곧 지각할 때 그것에 관여하는 요소와 구조의 총합은 무엇인가를 살펴보려는 것”이다. 그 결과 저자는 포스트드라마 연극의 한계로 21세기 초에 와서는 ‘해체’라는 형식주의에 대한 회의적이고 비판적인 시각에서 자유롭지 못하다는 점을 지적한다.
