ABSTRACT

Angeles on the Streets(Jib-eop-neun cheon-sa) was a Korean film released in February 1941, aiming to export to Japan from the beginning. In addition, Angeles on the Streets(Jib-eop-neun cheon-sa) is a film planned and produced by Goryeoyeonghwahyeopoe(고려영화협회). Basically, this film was related to Hyangninwon(향린원), which was run in Choseon in the 1930s~1940s. Based on the story of ‘true story’, a script of Angeles on the Streets was created, and the movie based on this script was Angeles on the Streets. Especially, Angeles on the Streets clearly shows economic poverty and social unrest. In addition, Angeles on the Street includes the closing scene of the ‘Ethics of a loyal citizen’, widely known as the oath allegiance to Japan. This is why Angeles on the Streets came to be criticized as ‘the movie that praises Japan’ or ‘the movie in favor of national policy’. And even now, such criticism is still to be said. This study will reconstruct the details of what the film is based on, and examine what kind of reality is being created based on it. And then, based on the results, this study will discuss how to judge the quantum problems that arise between the reality reflection and the loyalty to Japan.
