ABSTRACT

This study examines the ownership issue of the drama center by examining the establishment process of the Drama School of Seoul based on the Drama Center, and further examines the issue of publicity in the Korean theater education institutions in the 1960s. It is known that the establishment of the Drama School of Seoul in 1964 was an event in which the Drama Center, which was created with the support of Korean and American organizations such as the Ministry of Culture and Education and the Rockefeller Foundation, remained as a public theater in the theater world, but remained as the private property of Yoo’s family. This study examines the series of processes leading up to Yoo's establishment of a college, the Drama School of Seoul, and the discussions by several organizations such as the Korean National Assembly, the Ministry of Culture and Education, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the United States Information Service in Korea. Through this work, this study examines how the various reasons presented by Yoo Chi-jin as the cause of the college's establishment were accepted both in Korea and the United States at the time. Finally, We would find out about cognition what Yoo actually want to achieve through ‘Drama Center’s promotion to a university.’
