ABSTRACT

The rapid growth of the OTT platform is now actively pursuing external and internal changes in dramas enough to make it possible to distinguish between TV dramas and OTT dramas. In particular, in order to secure a clear distinction from existing dramas, OTT dramas are building huge spectacles, creating disaster narratives, and forming their identity as K-dramas. In that sense, Bargain produced by TVING is a representative work that reveals these attributes as they are. The drama has a six-part composition planned with a short play time and an expansive story structure, making us look forward to the production of future seasons. In addition, the characteristic of bringing about a universal situation of disaster but not ending hardship by suspending hope can be seen carefully. This also reflects the sentiment of our time, where survival has become the only goal. However, it is certainly worrisome that the narrative and expression method, which makes people immerse themselves only in survival games while being marked by excessive violence and sensationalism, is the consequence of the disaster narrative representing the K-OTT drama. In the face of the question posed by disaster, it is time to imagine the possibility of broad solidarity and new alternatives.
