ABSTRACT

This study analyzed the Perception and Status of Geographical Indication in North Korea. North Korea has already registered six GI products at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); Kaesong-Koryo-Insam, Paektusan Kasiogalpi, Koryo Sindoksan Saemmul, Kangso Yaksu, Paektusan Tuljiksul, and PyongYang Raengmyon. In the future, when opening the market in North Korea, it is necessary to improve the GI system and expand registration of related products to protect traditional products and agriculture. When North Korea begins reforming and opening up, it is necessary to concentrate support for agriculture among the primary industries in North Korea. External support needs to be focused on GI products that can enhance productivity, efficiency and agricultural competitiveness. At the same time, through the activation of the system, the traditional know-how of North Korea and the quality protection of agricultural products production process can be maintained.
