ABSTRACT

This study investigates the structural relationship between emotional burnout, cynical attitude, work stress, and reward perception as experienced by workers at a community children’s center. A survey was conducted with 447 employees of such a center in the city of Daejeon. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 and found that the research model had a statistically sound goodness of fit (χ²=200.063(df=83), CFI=.918, TLI=.897, RMSEA=.101) and that i) reward perception was negatively correlated with work stress, ii) work stress was positively correlated with emotional burnout and cynical attitude, and iii) emotional burnout was positively correlated with cynical attitude. These findings suggest that it is important to provide proper rewards and establish a well thought-out reward system for employees at community children’s centers to mitigate their work stress and prevent emotional burnout.
