ABSTRACT

This is to study the Seongjong's reading career in the Gyeongyeon(經筵) of Joseon Dynasty. Major findings are as the follows; 1. The Gyeongyeon(經筵) that was repealed by the king Seajo(世祖) was developed by the king Seongjong(成宗) in early Joseon Dynasty. 2. The king Seongjong(成宗) have had several more of the reading discussion than pre-kings, and the number of times that he participated to the reading discussion was 3,774(朝講), and the Jugang(晝講) was 2324, Seoggang(夕講) was 2,142. He was the king who liked to study for five years, but at the end of long-term seizure of power he was not almost present at the reading discussion of the Gyeongyeon(經筵). 3. The reading materials that he read at those day included Noneo(論語), Maengja(孟子), Jachitonggam(資治通鑑), Goryeosa(高麗史), Daehagyeonye(大學衍義), and Songwonjeolyo(宋元節要) etc., these books were necessary to build up king's character and rule the country.
