ABSTRACT

This study is to illuminate the Bomungak’s status in Goryeo Dynasty’s library history by investigating the year of establishment, period of existence, organizations and functions of Bomungak. Bomungak was first established at 11th year of Yejong(1116) in Goryeo Dynasty. Also it had been existed for 344 years till 6th year of Sejo(1460) in Joseon Dynasty. This is the longest history of existence among the many institutes of Goryeo Dynasty which had a function of library. Bomungak’s main function was to preserve the historical and classical books and documents. More over, it was used as educational institute for king and prince. By these results, Bomungak is evaluated as representative total academic institute in Goryeo Dynasty.
