ABSTRACT

In the two books of the Eunsacheop(恩賜帖) owned by Haenam Yun's family Nokwoodang, not only Yuji(有旨) and Jeongyo(傳敎) issued by the king, but also a number of ‘Eunsamoon (Document of the Royal Grant, 恩賜文)’, the documents which accompanied the articles granted by the Royal Court to Yun Seon-do(尹善道), are included. Eunsacheop means the book of Royal grants. Yun Seon-do had built a special relationship with Royal household by teaching both Bongrim(鳳林) Prince and Inpyeong(麟坪) Prince for five years during the reign of King Injo(仁祖). It is evidenced by those gifts and the documents granted by the Royal Court to Yun Seon-do. This study examined how the Eunsamoons that Yun Seon-do received from the Royal household were compiled as the present Eunsacheop, and found that each sheet of Eunsamoon was kept by Yun Seon-do in the form of ‘Chuk(軸)’ and later compiled as ‘Cheop(帖)’ by Yun Jong(尹悰). This study also investigated the standards of format and characteristics of Eunsamoon, which is a kind of old documents of the Joseon Period. The issuers of Eunsamoon can be classified largely into Daejeon (of King, 大殿), Naejeon (of Queen, 內殿), Daegoonbang (of princes, 大君房) and in the case of Daejeon, the authorities in charge were Naesusa(內需司), Sanggo(廂庫) and Nongpo(農圃). It was proved that drawing-up standards and terms were significantly different according to the issuers and issuing authorities. The Royal household in the Joseon Dynasty had granted many gifts and the relevant records remained, but there are only few documents which show the procedure of Royal grants and the detailed list of articles. That is why the Eunsamoons preserved in Haenam Yun's family Nokwoodang should be considered very important in studying the procedure of Royal grants.
