ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to analyze the experimental elements which are used to restore Mu-O metal types and their plate sets, recast from Gap-In movable metal types, focusing the method of casting and typesetting. The major findings are as follows: (1) Mu-O metal types are copper movable types which were completed in July, 1618 (10th year of Kwanghae-Gun's reign), since Kwanghae-Gun ordered to establish Juja-Dogam and recast Gap-In movable metal types in 1617.(2) The method of sand casting will be used to restore Mu-O metal types. For this experiment, compound metals (110 %) which consist of copper (80%), tin (15%) and lead (15%) will be used. Height of those types will range 0.7cm to 0.8cm, their backs will be the shape of an upside-down ‘V’, and the face of types and bridges will be connected with the one piece casting method.(3) To restore Mu-O plate sets, The method of prefabricated typesetting will be used. The size of a plate will be 27.3cm in length and 35.6cm in width, and bigger than the support of printing plates.
