ABSTRACT

It is general to regard Korean movable metal type casts were beeswax-casting(蜜蠟鑄造法) in the temple sites Goryeo(高麗) dynasty, sand-casting(鑄物砂鑄造法) by the central government office of Joseon(朝鮮) dynasty, and followed by potter’s clay-casting(陶土鑄造法) in civilian of late Joseon. However we don't have precise informations of these techniques and how many volumes of books were published yet. Comparing and analyzing two metal types printings of which Jikji(直指) movable metal type in Goryeo and sand-casting books in early Joseon, it is acknowledged there were not the same shapes, fonts, and letter traces, though the same words were used on the same pages. Consequently Jikji is known as a beeswax-casting metal printing book depended on the letter traces, but it is required to study based on the more scientific and systematic experiments now.
