ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to propose an effort to create the new ‘culture of Jikji’ by understanding better and promoting more interests in such phenomena as Jikji, Heungdeoksa Temple, Cheongju Early Printing Museum, and the globalization of Jikji.To create the new ‘culture of Jikji’, suggested are the following: (1) At the international level, research projects to establish the theory and history of Jikji and restore those metal types should be conducted; (2) An international research institute should be founded in the Cheongju Early Printing Museum; (3) A National Committee on Preserving Historical Records should be organized to manage and advance valuable cultural and historical written legacies of the world level; and (4) The Cheongju Exposition on Printing and Culture should be regularly held in either as the Exposition or the Biennale.
