ABSTRACT

This study is to examine the several basic wooden movable types carved in after the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592.The description begins with summarizing each basic history of movable types.Subsequently the existing movable types are examined as many as possible and arranged one by one.And through analyzing the elements used in these movable type names, it is examined which elements were preferred by the existing movable type names. This preference could be helpful for naming the newly found types or renaming the existing types.Finally, each standard name of movable types has been selected in total 11 movable types with applying writer’s own selection standard. Those are as follows:‘Geumneungjipja(金陵集字)’, ‘Jeungju samjagyeongja(增註三字經字)’, ‘Gwangju pilseoche mokwalja(光州筆書體木活字)’, ‘Gwangju daechisa pilseoche mokwalja(光州大峙祠筆書體木活字)’, ‘Bogwangsa inseocheja(寶光社印書體字)’, ‘Hyojong eobi daeja(孝宗御批大字)’, ‘Chiljeongnyeok mokwalja(七政曆木活字)’, ‘Hakbu inseoche mokwalja(學部印書體木活字)’, ‘Yaso samjagyeong dang daeja(耶蘇三字經唐大字)’, ‘Yaso samjagyeong han daeja(耶蘇三字經韓大字)’, ‘Yaso samjagyeong yang daeja(耶蘇三字經洋大字)’.
