ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to propose the method of restoring Sutra wood blocks by studying the techniques of engraving on the wood blocks and the style of a head of Mukujungkwangkyung(無垢淨光經) found in the Sukka-tower. It is proposed that to restore wood blocks, two pieces of wooden blocks which measure 60cm by 30cm are needed, and three pages can be carved on both sides of each block to produce a total of 12 pages. Also, since the discovery of Mukujungkwangkyung from the Sukka-tower, many researchers, referring to the physical characteristics of this sutra, inferred that ‘name of a translator(譯者名)’ or ‘name of a translator in classical Chinese(漢譯者名)’ was written. However, based on the examination of four other existing resources, including Wanggung-tower Gold-paper Diamond-sutra(王宮塔本 金紙金剛經) transmitted to Korea, it can be concluded that ‘name of a translator in classical Chinese’ was originally not included in Mukujungkwangkyung.
