ABSTRACT

The form of diagram(圖) and explanatory diagram(圖說) which compactly integrates a wide range of academic accumulation has been regarded as important for a way of presenting simply and clearly the point of complicated theory and of revealing its fundamental meaning. Jinhak-do is the major work which Kwon Chunran(1539~1617) integrated his own scholarly understandings into 26 diagrams and explanatory diagrams to help the beginners in his later years. This book deals with human’s nature of 性․氣․心․情 from the principle of formation of the universe, the mind and motto that one should have to engage in studies, the important lessons of sages contained in the Four Books(四書) and Five Classics(五經), and the context of establishing the order of Neo-Confucianism in a country village. It is structured in the order of 宇宙論 → 人間心性論 → 工夫先後論 → 聖人敎訓論 → 其他論. Especially, since it completely follows the academic tradition of placing <太極圖> at the opening of Kunsarok(近思錄) compiled by Ju Hie(周熹) and Yeo Jogyum(呂祖謙) and Sunghak Sib-do by Yi Hwang, <第一 太極通體人事圖> is placed at the opening.
