AB - The purpose of this study is to reveal the history of printing process of Gukjobogam(「國朝寶鑑」) published in 1848 and the activities and characteristics of engravers mobilized for the woodblock publication. As a result of the research, the reason for mobilizing 19 engravers, more than originally planned from Gyeongsang-do(慶尙道) is clarified. And the real names of prominent engravers, including Yu Gwangpil(劉光弼), Kwon Chidae(權致大), and Jeon Yeongseong(田永性) who belonged to Gyoseogwan(校書館) and their engraving activities are identified. This study also presents useful data which could help understand the activities of engravers, including the materials and costs required for engraving, and the wage system for engravers, by examining the record of government registries.
