ABSTRACT

This study analyzes the King’s Message included in Baekamseonsaeng-munjip by Baekam(栢巖) Kim Reuk(金玏, 1540-1616). The major findings are as follows:(1) Baekam studied under Park Seungim(朴承任, 1517-1586), Hwang Junryang (黃俊良, 1517-1563) and Yi Hwang(李滉, 1501-1570). He was not only a faithful politician who governed the people kindly, but also a very courteous and patriotic person who sincerely respected his ancestors and his native place. The Baekamseonsaeng-munjip, 6 volumes in 4 books, is the collection of his works. (2) In the third volume of the Baekamseonsaeng-munjip, the King’s Messages titled as Jongyebyeonmu-bansajungoegyoseo and Gyohamgyeonggamsa- Yuhongseo are contained. These two messages were written by the order of King Seonjo. (3) Although Jongyebyeonmubansa-jungoegyoseo was written by the order of King Seonjo in 1584, it was not recorded in Seonjo-silrok and Gwangguk-jigyeongrok. However, it is still a valuable historical material. (4) Gyohamgyeonggamsa-Yuhongseo was written, when King Seonjo later appointed Songdang Yu Hong the governor of Hamgyeong Province in 1581. It was not recorded in Seonjosilrok and Songdangjip, but still a very useful material which could show the circumstances of northen frontiers at that time.
